About This Show

The saying, “only the truth is funny” is evident in this inspiring 1 1/2 hour stage show about the hilarity and the heartache of being a Baby Boomer. Written and performed by Nancy Alspaugh, Marilyn Kentz and Janice Ryan, Boomer Babes is part inspiration, part stand-up, part song parodies and fully relatable. The spirit of the show underlines their battle cry: “It’s not about anti-aging, it’s about fearless aging.” And the one sure way to become fearless is to talk about it — all of it — the good, the bad and the dry — in fact, they jokingly refer to the show as “The Dry Vagina Monologues.” Forty-nine-year-old Nancy Alspaugh is a high powered television producer turned author and activist on the subject of fearless aging. She coauthored Not Your Mother’s Midlife: A Ten Step guide to Fearless Aging (Andrews McMeel) with writing partner Marilyn Kentz, and both are launching Fearless Women: A Midlife Journey (Stewart, Tabori & Chang) April ’05.

In the stage show, Nancy represents those boomers who had it all – the career, the money, the power, but forgot to have a baby. She confides with her audience on topics like what women really want in life and the difference between being sexy and being intimate. Fifty-seven-year-old Marilyn Kentz is the outspoken brunette of the well known comedy duo “The Mommies”. Her original stage show led to an NBC sitcom, which led to a cable Ace Nominated Showtime Comedy Special, which brought about the ABC Talk show”Caryl and Marilyn: Real Friends. Marilyn represents those boomers who have had to face an empty nest, an ailing mom and a growing midsection. She is able to weave humor and pathos with deft timing and sweet sensitivity in a way no others have. Fifty-four-year-old Janice Ryan has had almost as many careers as she has had boyfriends. After traveling the world as a Pan Am Flight Attendant, having a successful acting career, and writing comedy, she never got around to getting married — which can be quite a challenge for someone who is now “mid-life impaired.” Internet dating, speed dating, singles parties, and a devastating long-term relationship, Janice is the single woman’s “true stories”.

Boomer Babes is a stage show for anyone who has ever looked at her hands and saw her mother’s. It’s for those of us who wake up in the middle of the night worrying about losing our parents. It’s for those who are afraid we might never meet the man of our dreams, and end up alone in an apartment with way too many cats. It’s for those of us who need a vat of moisturizer to get the day started. It’s for the thirty-year-olds who think they are already old. And it’s for the men in our lives who wonder whatever happened to the sweet, calm, agreeable woman he married.
