About the Show
This fall, while Broadway mounts multimillion-dollar spectacles, a new play is making noise from the grassroots. How to Hot-Wire a Lamppost is a fiery new work that puts the spotlight on what’s wrong with the American theatre industry—and what’s still possible when artists create outside its gates.
About the Play
In How to Hot-Wire a Lamppost, an audition room becomes the battleground for a shocking reunion. An audition reader is forced to confront someone from her past, and the sides they read blur into their personal history. The result: a high-stakes showdown that dissolves the line between performance and reality.
“This play belongs at Unit J,” says Hickey. “I know people are eager for theatre that’s intimate, disruptive, and affordable—not hundreds of dollars a ticket. DIY, scrappy, grassroots—that’s what theatre should feel like.”
