About This Show

Since its premiere 60 years ago, Brecht’s epic masterpiece of struggle and survival has come to be seen as the triumph of his career, and one of the finest achievements of modern drama. In Mother Courage and Her Children, a lone woman tries in vain both to make money and keep her family alive during the nightmare of the Thirty Years War that raged in Europe during the 17th century. Brecht tells her story with a dazzling blend of pathos and burlesque, mocking her foolhardiness while sympathizing with her wretched plight. Hungarian director Janos Szasz makes his American debut with this production.
