About This Show

Crowns, by Regina Taylor, is adapted from the book by Michael Cunningham & Craig Marberry. Directed by Lois Roach, with musical direction by Evelyn Lee Jones.

A joyous celebration of African-American women and their church hats, Crowns, is a soul-stirring tribute to the unique cultural phenomenon that fuses faith with fashion. Based on the acclaimed book, the stories of hats and the women who wear them are told with “hattitude” through personal reflection and gospel music (“When the Saints Go Marching In,” “We’re Marching to Zion”), interweaving faith, family, and the importance of style, spanning the generations.
