TheatreWorks has announced the productions set for its 2012-2013 season.

TheatreWorks will kick off their season with the world premiere of Laura Schellhardt’s Upright Grand (June 5 – 30), a music-filled drama about a father and daughter. Up next will be the regional premiere of Donald Margulies’ Time Stands Still (August 22-September 16), a 2010 Tony Award nominee about a battle-scarred photographer and her foreign correspondent lover. Moisés Kaufman’s 33 Variations (October 3-28), follows musicologist Kathryn Brandt as she attempts to solve Beethoven’s greatest mystery. Big River (November 28-December 30), a Tony Award-winning musical based on Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn, will play during the holiday season.

The new year will begin with the regional premiere of Matthew Lopez’s Somewhere (January 16-February 10), which introduces audiences to a Puerto Rican family striving to match sky-high hopes with low-end reality. Katori Hall’s recent Broadway hit The Mountaintop (March 6 -31), which imagines the last night in the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will have its regional premiere. Paul Gordon and Jay Gruska’s Being Earnest (April 3-28), an adaptation of the Oscar Wilde play, moves the comic masterpiece to a bachelor flat near Carnaby Street. TheaterWorks will close its season with Wild With Happy, the west coast premiere of Colman Domingo’s comedy about a struggling black actor rejecting the rituals of grief, opting instead for a road trip to Disney World.
