Mary Zimmerman to Participate in Bekeley Rep "Page to Stage" Series

Berkeley Repertory Theatre will present Tony Award-winning director Mary Zimmerman in conversation with theater critic Robert Hurwitt as part of its “Page to Stage
series. The free event will be held in the auditorium of the new Berkeley City College, on November 3 at 7 pm.

As previously announced, Zimmerman’s production of The Arabian Nights will play Berkeley Repertory Theatre, November 13-January 4, with an official opening on November 19.

In the play, Scheherazade spins hypnotic tales of genies, jesters, thieves, and kings in order to save her own life and eventually win King Shahryar’s heart.

The cast will include Alana Arenas (Sympathy the Learned), Ryan Artzberger (King Shahryar), Ari Brand (Boy), Noshir Dalal (Madman), Allen Gilmore (Ishak of Mosul), Sofia Jean Gomez (Scheherezade), Melina Kalomas (Perfect Love), Ramiz Monsef (Sage), Jesse J. Perez (Robber), Nicole Shalhoub (ensemble), Louis Tucci (Wazir), Pranidhi Varshney (ensemble), Stacey Yen (Azizah), and Evan Zes (Abual Hasant).

The design team will include Daniel Ostling (scenic design), Mara Blumenfeld (costume design), TJ Gerckens (lighting design), and Andre Pluess and Ben Sussman (sound design).

Zimmerman is the recipient of a 1998 MacArthur Fellowship and the 2002 Tony Award for Best Director for Metamorphoses. Additional credits include Argonautika, Journey to the West, The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, and The Secret in the Wings.
