National Pastime Comes to Bucks County Playhouse

The new musical composed by Albert M. Tapper begins tonight.

The musical National Pastime starts its run at Bucks County Playhouse tonight. The story takes place in a small Iowa town in 1933. Barry, the owner of the local radio station WZBQ, is trying to save the station from going under; however, Karen, the co-owner of WZBQ, wants to sell the station. In response, Barry devises a scheme involving baseball to try to change Karen’s mind. She may even find love in the process.

The show features music and lyrics by Albert M. Tapper and a book by Tony Sportiello. It is choreographed by Lorin Latarro and directed by Hunter Foster. The cast features Matthew Bauman, Meredith Beck, Will Blum, Danielle Mia Diniz, Janine DiVita, Stephanie Gibson, Abe Goldfarb, Andrew Kober, Kelli Maguire, Michael Dean Morgan, Spencer Plachy, and Alexandria Van Paris.

The creative team includes David Wolfson (musical direction, arrangements, and orchestrations), Jake DeGroot (light design), Jason Sherwood (set design), Jennifer Caprio (costume design), David A. Thomas (sound design), and Rebecca McBee (stage manager).

Performances will run through April 19.
