Ellen Adair, Shawn Fagan, et al. Set for Pensylvania Shakespeare’s Playboy of the Western World

Casting has been announced for the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival production of John Millington Synge’s Playboy of the Western World, to play the Schubert Theatre, June 16-July 3. James J. Christy will direct.

In the play, a shy country lad stumbles into a remote Irish tavern and reveals his murderous deed, causing the locals to proclaim him a hero. The production stars Shawn Fagan as Christy Mahon and Ellen Adair as Pegeen Mike.

The cast will also include John Ahlin as Old Mahon, Dave Scheffler as Michael James Flaherty, Kim Ders as The Widow Quin, David A. Smith as Philly Cullen and Jacob R. Dresch as Shawn Keogh. Daniel Bound-Black, Chelsea Anne Carle, Melissa Egan, Henry Gibson, Emiley Kiser, and Chris Stevens complete the cast.

The creative team will include Bob Phillips (sets), Amy Best (costumes), Thom Weaver (lighting), Matthew Given (sound), Rick Sordelet (fight director), and Erin Hurley (choreographer).

The Pennsylvania Shakespeare season also features: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Main Stage June 23 – July 11), The Merry Wives of Windsor (July 14 – August 8 in the Schubert), and Romeo and Juliet (on the Main Stage July 21 – August 8). Family programming includes Robin Hood (June 4 – August 7) and Shakespeare for Kids (July 28 – August 7). The free outdoor Green Show is performed one hour prior to each evening performance, June 16 – August 7.
