Sherie Rene Scott Goes to Prison in Whorl Inside a Loop

Scott's new play, cowritten with Dick Scanlan, follows an actress as she teaches a group of inmates how to tell their stories.

In her new play Whorl Inside a Loop at Second Stage Theatre, Sherie Rene Scott goes to prison. Well, it's not Sherie Rene Scott, exactly — it's simply a character called the Volunteer, who bears a striking resemblance to the Tony-nominated star of shows like Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Last Five Years. Cowritten with Dick Scanlan, the drama follows the Volunteer as she teaches a group of inmates how to tell their stories through monologues. It's a far cry from her last semiautobiographical production, Everyday Rapture, but it has just as much of a searing impact. Check out these scenes from the show, in which she stars with Derrick Baskin, Nicholas Christopher, Chris Myers, Ryan Quinn, Daniel J. Watts, and Donald Webber Jr.
