The Broadway Theatre Archive Donates 300 Tapes to the Museum of Television and Radio

The Broadway Theatre Archive, dedicated to restoring and disseminating videotapes of TV adaptations of classic Broadway plays, is donating 300 such tapes to the New York City branch of the Museum of Television and Radio, located at 25 West 52nd Street in Manhattan.

Among the titles included in this batch of donations are: The Iceman Cometh, with Jason Robards and Robert Redford; Kevin Kline’s Hamlet; Hogan’s Goat, with Faye Dunaway and Philip Bosco; Secret Service, with Meryl Streep and John Lithgow; and The Royal Family, with Rosemary Harris and the legendary Eva LeGallienne. Culled from the libraries of WNET/13 (New York), KCET (Los Angeles), and Time-Life/HBO, the donated tapes will be permanently available at the museum for scholarly research and public viewing.

Launched in 1997 by its parent company, Broadway Digital, The Broadway Theatre Archive has obtained licensing rights to TV versions of Broadway shows produced from the 1950s through the 1980s. The company’s collection represents the single largest library of Broadway plays and literary properties adapted specifically for television.
