The Atlantic Theater Company has announced plans to present a new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kenneth Lonergan as part of its upcoming 2015-16 season. The world premiere of Hold on to Me Darling will be directed by the Atlantic’s artistic director Neil Pepe, with a run scheduled from February 24-April 3. Opening night is planned for March 14.

In Hold on to Me Darling, world famous country and western star Strings McCrane begins questioning the meaning of his life after learning of his mother's death. Determined to abandon his celebrity and his career, McCrane moves back to his hometown in Tennessee, but the transition doesn’t go well. According to press materials, the play "examines the costs of fame, fortune and narcissism in pursuit of the American Dream."

A playwright, screenwriter, and director, Kenneth Lonergan was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for his 2000 play The Waverley Gallery. Last year, his 1996 play This Is Our Youth became the first of his works to be presented on Broadway, running from September 11-January 04, 2015, at the Cort Theatre. Michael Cera, Kieran Culkin, and Tavi Gevinson starred. Lonergan's other plays include Lobby Hero, The Starry Messenger, and Medieval Play. His debut feature film, You Can Count on Me, which he wrote and directed, received an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay.

The show's casting, design team, and full schedule will be announced shortly.
