Joely Richardson and Cotter Smith will star in Michael Weller’s Side Effects, which will now begin performances on June 2 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in anticipation of an official opening on June 19. David Auburn will direct this MCC Theater production.
The play centers on a couple whose marriage seems picture-perfect but is actually disintegrating.
Richardson’s numerous London stage credits include Lady Windemere’s Fan, Miss Julie, Macbeth, Worlds Apart, Every Man in His Humor, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In addition, she won a Golden Globe and received two Emmy Award nominations for her portrayal of Julia McNamara on Nip/Tuck. On film, she has been seen in such movies as Anonymous, The Last Mimzy, The Affair of the Necklace, The Patriot, and Maybe Baby.
Smith has appeared on stage in Next Fall, An American Daughter, Burn This, Kin, How I Learned to Drive, The Dying Gaul, and Blood Knot. His film and television credits include X2, You Don’t Know Jack, Burning Blue, Friends with Kids, Lovers and Poets, Hill Street Blues, and White Collar.
