New York City
The musical comedy begins performances tonight.
La Jolla Playhouse's production of Up Here starts its run today at the Mandell Weiss Theatre. Dan is a 30-something repair man and consummate introvert, until he meets the outgoing T-shirt designer Lindsay and finally finds chemistry for a potential relationship. However, his efforts at a relationship are thwarted by the Technicolor world in his head. The panoply of neurotic, judgmental, and capricious characters presiding over his inner world are brought to life as Dan struggles to find his place in the universe, and, ultimately, happiness.
The musical features book, music, and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the Oscar-winning team behind Frozen. Alex Timbers directs.
The creative team includes Joshua Bergasse (choreographer), Aron Accurso (musical director), Dave Metzger (vocal arrangements), David Korins (set design), Ann Closs-Farley (costume design), David J. Weiner (lighting design), Peter Hylenski (sound design), Dan Scully (projection design), Michelle Zamora (puppet design), and Lisa Chan-Wylie (hair and wig design).
Performances will run through September 6.
