La Jolla Playhouse has announced the cast and creative team for its world-premiere production of The Squirrels, a new play by Tony Award nominee Robert Askins (Hand to God), running June 5-July 8 at the Mandell Weiss Forum.

Terence Archie (Rocky), Candy Buckley, Lakisha May (Everybody), Tony nominee Brad Oscar (Something Rotten!), Marcus Terrell Smith (The Book of Mormon national tour), Summer Spiro, Sidney Hill, Max Singer, and Danielle Wineman will star in the production.

Under the direction of La Jolla artistic director Christopher Ashley (Come From Away), the creative team will include Tony winner Beowulf Boritt (scenic design), Paloma Young (costume design), Tony nominee Tyler Micoleau (lighting design), Cricket S. Meyers (sound design), and John Narun (projection design).

The Squirrels is described as follows: "Winter is on the way and the squirrels are restless. Mistrust is growing between the rich Gray Squirrels and the outcast Fox Squirrels. When a wily outsider gets in the mix, he ignites an epic animal kingdom soap opera teeming with rebel armies, conspiracy, love and family loyalties. No squirrel will go unharmed in this deliciously-demented new comedy from Tony Award nominee Robert Askins."
