The Mint Theater gives the play its first production in 77 years.
The Mint Theater's American premiere of Hazel Ellis' Women Without Men is now running at New York City Center – Stage II.
Jenn Thompson directs an all-female cast, featuring Mary Bacon, Joyce Cohen, Shannon Harrington, Kate Middleton, Aedin Moloney, Alexa Shae Niziak, Kellie Overbey, Dee Pelletier, Beatrice Tulchin, Emily Walton, and Amelia White. The play explores the clash of conflicting natures and petty competitions that erupt among the cloistered teaching staff of an all-girls boarding school.
Set in the teacher’s lounge of a private boarding school for girls in Ireland in the 1930s, the story follows Jean Wade — an enthusiastic young teacher new to the school, who finds herself popular with the students and at odds with her quarrelsome colleagues — especially the antagonistic Miss Connor. When Miss Connor’s life’s work — a history of "beautiful acts" through the ages — is found torn to shreds, Jean is the most likely suspect.
The production officially opens February 25 and runs through March 26.
