Sarna Lapine directs the drama this summer off-Broadway.

Wendy Wasserstein’s 1997 play An American Daughter will receive a rare New York City revival, presented by La Femme Theatre Productions at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
Directed by Sarna Lapine, the production will begin performance July 23 in advance of an August 11 opening. Casting and additional details will be announced.
An American Daughter is the story of a Senator’s daughter who is heading for a Surgeon Genearl nomination, until a public faux pas and a minor oversight discovered during her background check threatens to destroy her reputation.
This production will feature a previously unpublished second-act of the play, which was famously dismissed by critics upon its Broadway premiere at Lincoln Center Theater. That production starred Kate Nelligan, Hal Holbrook, and Lynne Thigpen, who won a Tony for her performance. A film adaptation starred Christine Lahti.
