Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) Sets Closing Date on Broadway

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) will play its final performance at the Longacre Theatre on Sunday, November 29, 2026, following 21 previews and 428 performances.

The musical is written and composed by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, and directed and choreographed by Tim Jackson. It came to Broadway, where it received eight Tony nominations this year, following runs in London and Boston.

Sam Tutty and Christiani Pitts star as Dougal and Robin, reprising roles they originated at the American Repertory Theater. Tutty also played Dougal at the Kiln Theatre in north London and at the Criterion Theatre in the West End.

The creative team features associate director and choreographer Asmeret Ghebremichael, scenic and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jack Knowles, sound design by Tony Gayle, orchestrator Lux Pyramid, music supervisor Nick Finlow, and music director is Ted Arthur. The production stage manager is Judith Schoenfeld.

Two Strangers was first staged at the Kiln Theatre in 2023 before transferring to the West End in 2024, where it picked up a glowing five star WhatsOnStage review. Its North American premiere took place at the American Repertory Theater. The piece was originally titled The Season and developed through the Stiles and Drewe MTI Mentorship Award.

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) opened on Broadway last fall. In it, Dougal, an impossibly upbeat Brit, is visiting New York City for the first time to attend the wedding of the father he’s never met. Robin, the sister of the bride and a no-nonsense New Yorker with a lot of errands to run, picks Dougal up from the airport and they begin their journey together.

The standbys for Robin and Dougal are Phoenix Best, Austin Colburn, Jana Larell Glover, and Vincent Michael.

A national tour of the show will launch in Providence, RI.
