Three New York Premieres to Be Included in New Primary Stages Season

Primary Stages announced its upcoming 32nd season on March 14 at a champagne reception celebrating the centennial of the birth of late Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and Primary Stages collaborator Horton Foote. The 2016-17 season will be performed at New York's Cherry Lane Theatre.

In honor of Foote, the season's first offering will be the author's The Roads to Home (September- November). Foote's longtime collaborator Michael Wilson will direct the play, which follows three women living in Houston in the 1920s. Drama Desk winner Devon Abner and Tony-nominated Hallie Foote will star. Additional casting is to be announced.

The New York premiere of Claudia Rankine's Citizen: An American Lyric will take place in January-March 2017. Rankine and Stephen Sachs new stage adaptation of this New York Times bestseller is a rumination on racial aggression in America.

Closing the season will be the New York premiere of Michael McKeever's new play, Daniel's Husband (March-April 2017). Directed by Joe Brancato, the work explores what it means to be living in a world where fundamental rights aren't always so fundamental.

The 2016-17 season will also kick off the new Primary Stages Studio Series, PS TWO, which will feature productions in a smaller setting and enable Primary Stages and its audiences to explore new writers and their work on a more intimate level. The series' first production will be the New York premiere Fade (November-December) by Tanya Saracho, writer and coproducer of the ABC series How to Get Away With Murder. Fade is a behind-the-scenes comedy about the burgeoning friendship between Lucia and Abel, two Latinos of Mexican descent working at a ruthless Hollywood studio.
