“This is Crazy”…Pop Star Carly Rae Jepsen Takes Over the Title Role in Broadway’s Cinderella

No more doling out phone numbers to sexy lawn mowers…Jepsen will be regally coy for 12 weeks at the Broadway Theatre.

Multiplatinum Canadian pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen, best known for her chart-topping earworm “Call Me Maybe,” will make her Broadway debut as Cinderella at the Broadway Theatre for a 12-week limited engagement beginning February 4, 2014. Jepsen replaces two-time Drama Desk Award winner Laura Osnes, who completes her yearlong starring turn as the rags-to-riches princess in January. Also joining the cast on February 4 is the previously announced television star Fran Drescher (The Nanny), who begins her run as Cinderella’s stepmother, Madame.

Cinderella opened at the Broadway Theatre on March 3, 2013. Tony-nominated playwright Douglas Carter Beane lends a modernized book to the classic fairy tale, featuring a score by legendary songwriting team Rodgers and Hammerstein. Jepsen and Drescher will join a cast starring Santino Fontana (Prince Topher), Peter Bartlett (Sebastian), Ann Harada (Charlotte), Greg Hildreth (Jean-Michel), and Marla Mindelle (Gabrielle). Fontana will soon depart the production to star in the new play Act One. A replacement for Fontana has yet to be announced.
