The Old Globe Announces Its 2018-19 Season

The Old Globe has announced its full 2018-19 season. Having previously announced the world premiere of the Huey Lewis and the News-inspired musical The Heart of Rock & Roll (September 6-October 21), the season will include four other world premieres in addition to a couple of West Coast premieres, a US premiere, and a handful of Shakespeare and holiday productions.
The other world premieres will include Looking for Christmas: The New Clint Black Christmas Musical (November 13-December 16), featuring music and lyrics by Clint Black, book by James D. Sasser, and direction by Kent Nicholson; Lauren Ollstein's They Promised Her the Moon (April 6-May 5, 2019), directed by Giovanna Sardelli; Ken Ludwig's The Gods of Comedy (May 11-June 16, 2019), directed by Kathleen Marshall; and J.C. Lee's What You Are (May 23-June 23, 2019).
The Old Globe will also present the West Coast premieres of Tony Award nominee Danai Gurira's Familiar (January 26-March 3, 2019) and Tiny Beautiful Things (February 9-March 10, 2019), Nia Vardalos's adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's bestselling book, coconceived by Marshall Heyman, Thomas Kail (Hamilton), and Vardalos, and directed by James Vásquez. And Life After, a new musical with book, music, and lyrics by Britta Johnson, will make its American premiere in a production directed by Old Globe artistic director Barry Edelstein.
Two Shakespeare plays will also be presented this season. The fifth annual Globe for All Tour will present a free production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Patricia McGregor, October 30-November 18. And the Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program will present Julius Caesar October 20-28.
Finally, Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas! will return to the Old Globe for its 21st year November 3-December 29. A special performance for children on the autism spectrum and their families will be presented on Saturday, December 1.
