Teller's Magical Production of The Tempest Announces Casting at the American Repertory Theater
Harvard's American Repertory Theater has announced the cast and design team for its upcoming production of Shakespeare's The Tempest, adapted and directed by Aaron Posner and Teller of the illusionist duo Penn & Teller. Teller will lend magic to the production, along with additional music by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan, and movement by Matt Kent of Pilobolus.
The Tempest is set on a magical island where shipwrecked aristocrats have washed up on its shores. The wizard Prospero presides over the island where he lives with his daughter Miranda, who soon falls in love with Ferdinand, son of King Alonso of Naples.
The cast will be led by Tom Nelis as Prospero, with Louis Butelli as Antonio, Nate Dendy as Ariel, Dawn Didawick as Gonzala, Christopher Donohue as Alonso, Joby Earle as Ferdinand, Zach Eisenstat and Manelich Minifee as Caliban, Charlotte Graham as Miranda, Eric Hissom as Stephano, Jonathan Kim as Trinculo, and Edmund Lewis as Sebastian. The ensemble will be joined by musicians Shaina Taub (music director), Miche Braden, Michael Brun, and Nate Tucker.
The production's creative team includes scenic designer Daniel Conway, costume designer Paloma Young, lighting designer Christopher Akerlind, sound designer Darron L. West, magic consultant Johnny Thompson, magical prop designer Thom Rubino, and instrument designer Kenny Wollesen.
Performances will run from May 10-June 15 at the Loeb Drama Center.
