As the 17th annual New York International Fringe Festival prepares for the start of its two-week run (August 9-25), a few of the participating productions begin to pull away from the rest of the crowd.
On Wednesday, Why You Beasting?, a dark comedy written by David Don Miller, became the first festival production to sell out its entire run. Several other productions have already sold out multiple performances, including Rubble, Big Dummy, Cowboys Don’t Sing, Off the Desk, Bellini and the Sultan, and Snakes I Have Known. Also among the best-sellers are The Rufus Equation, Gertrude Stein Saints!, Luke Nicholas, The TomKat Project, Someone to Belong To, Peninsula, Horse Play, What Every Girl Should Know, Perfectly Normel People, and Playing God.
As New York City’s fifth-largest annual public event, this year’s Fringe Festival will feature programming from 185 theater troupes and dance companies from all over the world, presented in 20 different venues located in downtown Manhattan.
