Greg Garcia and Mike O’Malley will write the book.
A new musical using the songs of legendary singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett is currently in development, producers Frank Marshall, Mindy Rich, Anita Waxman, and Beth Williams have announced.
Directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley (Memphis), the show, which will tell an original story, is expected to feature a book by noted television writer/director Greg Garcia (Yes, Dear, Raising Hope) and Mike O'Malley (Glee, Yes, Dear), alongside Buffet's classic songs like "Margaritaville."
"The idea of turning Margaritaville into a musical has been percolating for quite a while, but finding the right people to tell the right kind of story to go with the right songs from my catalogue took some time," Buffett said in a statement. "Now we have found our crew and I am happy to sail with them to Margaritaville. It's going to be a fun voyage."
A premiere date is expected for 2017.
