Sondheim's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum Begins at Walnut Street

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum begins performances tonight at Walnut Street Theatre.

Featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, the show is described as "a nonstop laugh-fest in which Pseudolus, a crafty slave, struggles to win the hand of a beautiful, but slow-witted, courtesan named Philia for his young master, Hero, in exchange for freedom. The plot twists and turns with cases of mistaken identity, slamming doors and a bevy of beautiful showgirls. This unforgettable, hysterical musical comedy will have you laughing all the way to the Forum with 'something for everyone, a comedy tonight!'"

Frank Ferrante directs and stars as Pseudolus. He is joined by Scott Greer (Hysterium), Billy D. Hart (Gymnasia), Mary Martello (Domina), Brandon O'Rourke (Hero), Nichalas L. Parker (Miles Gloriosus), Fran Prisco (Lycus), Alanna J. Smith (Philia), Bill Van Horn (Erronius), Ron Wisniski(Senex),; and Ben Dibble, Jennie Eisenhower, and Dave Jadico as the Proteans. Ensemble members include Sara Brophy, Anne Connors, Jennie Eisenhower, Billy D. Hart, Kimberly Maxson, Ellie Mooney, and Kerri Rose. Ronnie Keller, Mikal K. Odom, Jenna Rogalski, and Ruby Westfall appear as extras.

The production features choregraphy by Michelle Guadette, with music and vocal direction from John Daniels. Rounding out the creative team are Robert Andrew Kovach (scenic design), Paul Black (lighting design), Mary Folino (costume design), and Ed Chapman (sound design).
