Signature Theatre has announced a one-week extension for both F**king A, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks and directed by Obie Award winner Jo Bonney, and In The Blood, written by Parks and directed by Obie Award winner Sarah Benson. F**king A will now run through October 8, while In the Blood will offer performances through October 15. The shows, both inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, are being presented in tandem for the first time as the event Signature is calling The Red Letter Plays.

In F**king A, "Hester Smith, the revered and reviled local abortionist, hatches a plan to buy her jailed son's freedom — and nothing will deter Hester from her quest. In this wild-eyed blend of story and song, Hester's branded letter A becomes a provocative emblem of vengeance, violence, and sacrifice." The production opened on September 11.

In In the Blood, "Hester La Negrita is a penniless mother of five condemned by the men who love her. Hester turns to former lovers, friends, and the institutions meant to support her, only to be spurned by them all with devastating consequences." Opening night is set for September 17.
