“Working with his stylist Sam Ratelle, Porter landed on an interpretation of Diana Ross's Ancient Egypt–inspired look. He also cites additional references, such as Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra and Bob Mackie's iconic costumes for Cher, while the Blonds designers Phillipe Blond and David Blond were inspired by ballroom fixture Pepper LaBeija.” – @vogue⠀ ⠀ Creative Direction and Styling by @sammyratelle for @rrrcreative Agency ⠀ Style Assistant: @ashleymarienyc⠀ Make-Up by: @lasonyagunter⠀ Make-Up Provided by: @patmcgrathreal Custom Look: @theblondsny⠀ Custom Shoes: @giuseppezanotti⠀ Jewelry by: @oscarheyman @andreolifinejewelry @johnhardyjewlery @mordekaiofficial ⠀ Egyptian Litter & Carrier Designs by @nicolasputvinski⠀ Carrier Make-Up by @facebygoran @ashleyvictoriamua⠀ Mr. Porter's Broadway Carriers: @julius_anthony @taurenje @kellenstancil @thejoshdrake @lap_nyc @doniejunior ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀

“Tonight, Billy Porter shut down the Met Gala red carpet when he arrived on a litter—carried by six shirtless men!—in a theatrical nod to Ancient Egypt. The Pose star's custom "Sun God" ensemble, by The Blonds, included a bejeweled catsuit outfitted with 10-foot wings, a 24-karat gold headpiece, as well as custom gold-leaf Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and fine jewels by Andreoli and Oscar Heyman.” – @vogue⠀ ⠀ Creative Direction and Styling by @sammyratelle for @rrrcreative Agency ⠀ Style Assistant: @ashleymarienyc⠀ Make-Up by: @lasonyagunter⠀ Make-Up Provided by @patmcgrathreal Custom Look: @theblondsny⠀ Custom Shoes: @giuseppezanotti⠀ Jewelry by: @oscarheyman @andreolifinejewelry @johnhardyjewlery @mordekaiofficial ⠀ Egyptian Litter & Carrier Designs by @nicolasputvinski⠀ Carrier Make-Up by @facebygoran @ashleyvictoriamua⠀ Mr. Porter's Broadway Carriers: @julius_anthony @taurenje @kellenstancil @thejoshdrake @lap_nyc @doniejunior

He was carried down the red carpet by six Broadway performers, all sporting custom looks by fashion designer Nicolas Putvinski: Josh Drake (Aladdin), Taurean Everett (The Cher Show), Donald Jones Jr. (Frozen), Anton Lapidus (So You Think You Can Dance), Julius Anthony Rubio (Steven Spielberg's West Side Story), and Kellen Stancil (The Lion King).

Porter wore custom shoes by Giuseppe Zanotti, with jewelry provided by Oscar Heyman, Andreoli, John Hardy, and Mordekai. Pat McGrath supplied the make-up, which was designed by LaSonya Gunter (Porter), and Goran Sliskovic and Ashley Victoria (Porter's escorts).
