The Tony winner gave Ancient Egyptian realness in honoring this year’s theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”
At the 2019 Met Gala on May 6, Tony Award winner Billy Porter honored this year's theme, "Camp: Notes on Fashion," by going Ancient Egyptian. Check out his look below.
Porter and his stylist, Sam Ratelle of RRR Creative, collaborated with NYC-based designers the Blonds to create the look, inspired by Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra, Mahogany, Flash Gordon, and the Egyptian sun god.
He was carried down the red carpet by six Broadway performers, all sporting custom looks by fashion designer Nicolas Putvinski: Josh Drake (Aladdin), Taurean Everett (The Cher Show), Donald Jones Jr. (Frozen), Anton Lapidus (So You Think You Can Dance), Julius Anthony Rubio (Steven Spielberg's West Side Story), and Kellen Stancil (The Lion King).
Porter wore custom shoes by Giuseppe Zanotti, with jewelry provided by Oscar Heyman, Andreoli, John Hardy, and Mordekai. Pat McGrath supplied the make-up, which was designed by LaSonya Gunter (Porter), and Goran Sliskovic and Ashley Victoria (Porter's escorts).
