Emily Schwend and Fernanda Coppel join the series’ 13th year of productions.
Second Stage Theatre Uptown, whose home is located at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre on Broadway at 76th Street, has announced two world premiere plays set to join its 13th season.
The Other Thing, written by Emily Schwend and directed by Lucie Tiberghien, will run from May 12-June 7, with an official May 21 opening. The play follows a journalist named Kim who is writing what she thinks will be a run-of-the-mill article about a father-and-son team of ghost hunters in rural Virginia. As the three of them pass the evening outside a haunted barn, waiting for spirits to reveal themselves, what begins as just another day at the office soon becomes a night none of them will forget.
King Liz, written by Fernanda Coppel and directed by Lisa Peterson, will follow with a run from July 13-August 8 (July 23 press opening). The story centers on successful sports agent Liz Rico, who, as a woman in a man’s industry, has to fight to stay on top. She’s worked twice as hard to get where she is and wants to take over the agency that she's helped build. Enter Freddie Luna, a high school basketball superstar with a troubled past. If Liz can keep this talented, yet volatile young star in line, she just might end up making both of their careers, but potentially at a price.
