Sam Kelly will join the previously announced Gwen Taylor, Timothy West, and Susannah York in a revival of Ronald Harwood’s 1999 play Quartet, which will embark on a regional tour from Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guilford, to run June 16-26. Edward Hardwicke has withdrawn from the production, to be directed by Joe Harmston, for personal reasons.
Kelly may be best known for his work on such television shows as ‘Allo ‘Allo, We’ll Think of Something, and Midsomer Murders. Among his stage credits are Kean, opposite Antony Sher, and Wicked.
Harwood’s play is set in a home for retired musicians and focuses on three old friends, once the brightest stars of the opera world, whose tranquility is about to be shattered by a surprise new arrival.
Subsequent tour stops for Quartet include the Cambridge Arts Theatre (June 28 – July3), Theatre Royal Brighton (July 5-10), Richmond Theatre (July 12-17), Theatre Royal Nottingham (July 19-24), Milton Keynes Theatre (July 19-24), Theatre Royal Norwich (August 9-14), Oxford Playhouse (August 16-21) and Malvern Festival Theatre (August 23-28).
