A Celebration of Color on Broadway, a special benefit event designed to bring attention to the African-American community and highlight their achievements, history and legends, will be held on Thursday, June 9 at SAKS Fifth Avenue.
The event, to be hosted by Kemberly Richardson, will benefit Opus 118, a private, non-profit organization that supports music education programs for public school students in low-income areas. A Celebration of Color on Broadway was founded by Stephen Colman, David Watkins, and Jayson Jackson.
The event will honor the achievements of Tony Award-winning director George C. Wolfe, who is currently represented on Broadway by The Normal Heart, and producers Ruth and Stephen Hendel; it will also celebrate the life of the late Barbara Ann Tear, founder of the National Black Theater.
Notables expected at the event include actors Saana Lathan and Ruben Santiago-Hudson, record producer Andre Harrell, and musician Ray Chew.
