Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead Original Script Put Up For Auction

On September 24, Forum Auctions in Battersea, London, will auction the original script of Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, with annotations by director Brian Daubney, alongside other material related to the first production of the play at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1966.

That production was an obscure student staging, seen by a small amount of people. Its first London outing was in 1967 at the Old Vic. The play imagines the untold adventures of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, two minor characters from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

The collection includes an outline of a deal between the theater group and Stoppard’s agent, alongside Daubney’s scrapbook of reviews, including the single positive review of the play by Ronald Bryden of the Observer.
