
Robey Theatre Company has announced the production schedule for its 2009 season, which will feature two full length works, works-in-progress from the the theater’s Playwrights Lab, and readings from works produced by the theater over the last decade.
One full-length production, Bronzeville, written by Tim Toyama and Aaron Woolfolk, April 17-May 17, examines the racial climate born from President FDR’s Executive Order 9066, when all the West Coast Japanese Americans were relocated and black families moved into their homes in Little Tokyo. Bennet Guillory will direct.
The other full length production, The River Niger by Joseph A. Walker, November 17-December 13, will highlight a Black family’s conflict when their son returns from military training undecided about his own future and not quite the hero his father expected.
