Richard Kind to Play Edna in Hairspray This Summer at the Muny

Richard Kind, currently starring as Max Bialystock in the West End revival of The Producers, will play Edna Turnblad in the Muny’s production of Hairspray, running June 15-21 at the outdoor theater in St. Louis.

Hairspray will be directed by Seth Sklar-Heyn, with choreography by Jesse Robb and music direction by Evan Roider. It is based on the John Waters film, with a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan.

Kind’s credits also include The Big Knife, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, Kiss Me, Kate, and All In, among other shows.

Full casting for Hairspray will be announced at a later date.
