Rashidra Scott to Assume Norma Desmond Standby Position in Sunset Boulevard

Rashidra Scott will begin standing by for the role of as faded silent movie star Norma Desmond in Jamie Lloyd’s Broadway revival of Sunset Boulevard on January 20.

Caroline Bowman, who had been the role’s previous standby and played a single performance on January 12, will depart the company January 19 to star in the upcoming musical Smash. Mandy Gonzalez continues her turn as the Norma “guest star,” performing one show per week in lieu of star Nicole Scherzinger.

Scott played Susan in Marianne Elliott’s revival of Company, and has also been seen in Ain’t Too ProudAnything GoesSister ActHair, and Avenue Q, among other shows.

Directed by Jamie Lloyd and choreographed by Fabian Aloise, this new production of the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber (score), Don Black (book and lyrics), and Christopher Hampton (book and lyrics) is designed by Soutra Gilmour (sets and costumes), Jack Knowles (lighting design), Adam Fisher (sound design), and Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom (video design and cinematography). Alan Williams is the music supervisor and musical director. Sunset Boulevard is based on the film by Billy Wilder.
