Public Theater’s Giant to Receive Original Cast Recording

Ghostlight to preserve new Michael John LaChiusa score for posterity.

Talk about a giant undertaking – recording a show with a cast of 26 actors and a 17-piece orchestra!

Ghostlight Records will release a recording of Giant, ”the new off-Broadway musical by Michael John LaChiusa with a book by Sybille Pearson based on Edna Ferber’s novel, in spring 2013. Michael Greif has directed the production, which concludes a two-month run at the Public Theater on December 16. The recording session will take place in January.

The musical, which runs approximately three hours, spans several generations of a Texas ranching family, amid a turbulent culture of greed, bigotry and money. Among the show’s songs are “Heartbreak Country”, “He Wanted A Girl,” “Topsy-Turvy,” and “Jump.”

The cast features Enrique Acevedo (Ensemble), Raul Aranas (Polo), Mary Bacon (Adarene, Mrs. Lynnton), Kate Baldwin (Leslie), Miguel Cervantes (Angel), Natalie Cortez (Juana), Rocio Del Mar Valles (Analita), John Dossett (Bawley), Jon Fletcher (Bobby Jr., Bobby Sr.), P.J. Griffith (Jett), Michael Halling (Lord Karfrey, Lynnton), Brian d’Arcy James (Bick), Mackenzie Mauzy (Lil Luz), Doreen Montalvo (Lupe), Michele Pawk (Luz); Allison Rogers (Heidi, Lady Karfrey); Isabel Santiago (Ensemble), Martin Sola (DiModeo), Bobby Steggert (Jordy Jr.), Matthew Stocke (Mike), Katie Thompson (Vashti), and William Youmans (Pinkie), as well as Becca Ayers, Xavier Cano, Michelle Mitchell, and Tally Sessions.

The production has scenic design by Allan Moyer, costume design by Jeff Mahshie, lighting design by Ken Posner, sound design by Brian Ronan, musical direction by Chris Fenwick, and choreography by Alex Sanchez.
