The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation’s IT Awards, honoring excellence in off-off Broadway theater, were presented in a ceremony held on September 19 at Cooper Union’s Great Hall.
Comedian Harrison Greenbaum hosted the evening, with presenters including John Glover, Basil Twist, David Henry Hwang, Richard Foreman, Richard Maltby, Jr., Jay O. Sanders, Julie Atlas Muz, Klea Blackhurst, Shirley Knight, Sally Lesser, John Gromada, Ken Billington, Robert Zuckerman, Susan Stroman, Kevin Cunningham, Jeanine Tesori, and John Patrick Shanley.
Honorary Awards were presented to playwright Robert Patrick, who received the Artistic Achievement Award; Horse Trade Theater Group, which received the Ellen Stewart Award; and Flux Theatre Ensemble, which received The 2011 Caffé Cino Fellowship Award.
In addition, winners of competitive awards were announced. The Gallery Players’ production of The Drowsy Chaperone picked up top honors for Production of a Musical, and also won awards for choreographer Christine O’Grady, costume designer Ryan J. Moller, and for its acting ensemble.
