One hundred cast members from some of the West End’s most popular productions congregated in Trafalgar Square, in front of the Olympic Countdown Clock, for a ‘West End Warm Up’ on Wednesday, April 18.
This photo opportunity, organized by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), was the West End Theatre’s way of welcoming the world, on the occasion of the 100 day countdown to the 2012 Olympic games.
Among the participants in the event were representatives from The 39 Steps, Billy Elliot The Musical, Blood Brothers, Chicago The Musical, Dreamboats & Petticoats, Ghost The Musical, Late Night Gimp Fight – Soho Theatre, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia!, One Man, Two Guvnors, Singin’ in the Rain, South Downs/The Browning Version, Shrek The Musical, Stomp, Sweeney Todd, Disney’s The Lion King, The National Theatre, The Phantom of the Opera, The Wizard of Oz, The Woman in Black, War Horse, and We Will Rock You.
Speakers at the event included acclaimed director Stephen Daldry; Olympic Gold medalist and new West End star Robin Cousins; actress Samantha Bond; producer Mark Rubinstein; Ruth Mackenzie, the Director of Culture for LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games; and Julian Bird and Nica Burns from SOLT.
