The free Chicago-area premiere of Sarah Treem’s The How and the Why will be presented September 27 to October 14 at Northwestern University’s Jerome B. Cohen Commons, on fourth floor of the Technological Institute. Maureen Payne-Hahner will direct.

Representing the fifth season of ETOPiA: Engineering Transdisciplinary Outreach Project in the Arts, the play will take place in a room in the heart of the Technological Institute, where engineering and science students spend much of their time.

In The How and the Why Zelda, a Harvard professor, and Rachel, an NYU graduate student, are connected scientifically by their competing evolutionary theories about the female body.

The cast will feature Chicago actors Peggy Roeder and Brenda Barrie.
