Dael Orlandersmith’s solo show, written in response to Michael Brown’s death, makes its New York premiere.
Pulitzer prize finalist Dael Orlandersmith (Yellowman) opened the New York premiere of her new solo show Until the Flood on Friday, January 19, at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.
St. Louis Repertory commissioned Orlandersmith to write Until the Flood in response to Michael Brown's death at the hands of Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson — an event that sparked large protests and became an early focal point of the Black Lives Matter movement. Orlandersmith interviewed residents of St. Louis in order to portray the many experiences of the community, holding no one viewpoint above others. Neel Keller directs.
Until the Flood features set design by Takeshi Kata, lighting design by Mary Louise Geiger, costume design by Kaye Voyce, sound design by Justin Ellington, and projection design by Nick Hussong.
