New York’s New Victory Theater has announced the 15 shows slated for its 2013-14 season, which will include nine U.S. premieres, three New York premieres, and one world premiere.
A U.S. premiere of Peter Pan, adapted by Tommy Murphy, will open the season. Directed by Ralph Myers, the production comes from Belvoir, a theater company based in Sydney, Australia. The show is scheduled to run from October 4-13.
Circus Der Sinne’s Mother Africa will also make its U.S. premiere at the New Victory, running from December 6-January 5, 2014. The show will feature an “Icarian Games” act from Ethiopia, stilt walkers from Tanzania, and a contortionist from Kenya known as “the most flexible man in the world.”
The season’s remaining U.S. premieres include Sleeping Beauty from Carlo Colla & Sons Marionette Company (November 1-10), a Dutch dance show entitled Hyperish (May 9-May 18, 2014), and three additional productions from Australia including Patch Theatre Company’s Me and My Shadow (October 19-20), Jump Leads and Jessica Wilson’s cabaret Still Awake Still! (January 18-20, 2014), and Knee Deep by Brisbane’s popular new circus company Casus (March 21-30, 2014).
New Victory will also offer New York premieres of the rock-infused tap performance Feet Don’t Fail Me Now (November 15-December 1); a new musical entitled Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds, based on the story by Cedella Marley and featuring a score by legendary reggae artist Bob Marley (February 7-23, 2014); and Fluff, an imaginative and family-friendly piece by Australian performance artist Christine Johnston (April 26-May 4, 2014).
Unique Theatrical Experience Drama Desk Award nominee Bello Nock will return to perform a new incarnation of his high-flying clown show Bello Mania from April 4-20, 2014. Children performances including Songs From Above, This [Baby] Life (February 12-23, 2014), and Baby Rave (May 7-18, 2014) will also join the New Victory season.
