Chicago's Profiles Theatre has announced the lineup of five productions set for its 27th season.
The season will open with the midwest premiere of The Jacksonian, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Beth Henley (Crimes of the Heart). The eerie new play, revolving around the night of a murder, is set in 1964 Jackson, Mississippi, when dentist Bill Perch moves into the seedy Jacksonian Motel after his wife kicks him out of their home. Artistic Director Joe Jahraus helms the production, set to run on the Main Stage from August 21-October 11 with an official August 27 opening.
Will Kern’s Hellcab will then return to Profiles Theatre for its fourth consecutive holiday season on the Main Stage. Kern draws from his experience as a former cabbie to portray an eclectic collection of passengers taking rides on a bitterly cold Christmas Eve. Directed by Eric Burgher, performances will run from November 6-January 10, 2016, with an official press opening on November 12.
Vices & Virtues, two separate evenings of short works by resident artist Neil LaBute (Reasons to Be Pretty), will then have their world premiere on Profiles' Alley Stage. The theme of the plays is described as "'Love' — what it is, what it's not and how far it can be stretched." Performances will run from January 15-March 6, 2016, with an official opening set for January 21.
The midwest premiere of Jerusalem, written by Jez Butterworth (The River) will follow on the Main Stage from February 12-April 3, 2016 (official opening on February 18). A comic, contemporary vision of rural England, the play opened on Broadway in 2011, receiving a Tony Award nomination for Best Play and the award for Best Actor in a Play for Mark Rylance.
The midwest premiere of Penelope Skinner's The Village Bike will close out Profiles' Main Stage season. The production follows its 2014 American premiere at New York’s MCC, featuring Golden Globe Award-nominated actress Greta Gerwig. Jahraus will direct the play, set to run from May 6-June 26, 2016 (May 12 press opening).
Profiles Theatre is currently concluding its 26th season with the midwest premiere of Our New Girl by Nancy Harris.
