West End star Eva Noblezada will reprise her performance as Kim.
Cameron Mackintosh's upcoming Broadway production of Miss Saigon has announced that Alistair Brammer will join the cast, reprising his West End performance as the young American GI Chris. Boublil and Schönberg's legendary musical will play at the Broadway Theatre, beginning March 1 with an opening on March 23, under the direction of Laurence Connor.
The Broadway mounting comes after an acclaimed run at the Prince Edward Theatre in London's West End. As previously announced, Jon Jon Briones and Eva Noblezada, who originated the roles of the Engineer and Kim in that production, will reprise their roles in New York, while Rachelle Ann Go and Devin Ilaw will play Gigi and Thuy, respectively. The cast also includes Katie Rosie Clarke as Ellen and Nicholas Christopher as John.
Miss Saigon features a book and lyrics by Alain Boublil, book and music by Claude-Michel Schonberg, lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr., and additional lyrics by Michael Mahler. Inspired by Puccini's Madama Butterfly, the musical tells the story of Kim, a young woman who falls for an American GI named Chris, as their lives are torn apart by the fall of Saigon.
In the vein of Mackintosh's Tony-nominated revival of Les Misérables, this new production of Miss Saigon, is described as grittier and more realistic than the original, featuring new scenic designs and a new song for the character Ellen. Bob Avian provides the musical staging, with Geoffrey Garratt providing additional choreography.
Production design is by Totie Driver and Matt Kinley based on an original concept by Adrian Vaux, costume design is by Andreane Neofitou, lighting design is by Bruno Poet, sound design is by Mick Potter, and orchestrations are by William David Brohn.
The Broadway run will be limited through January 15, 2018, before launching a national tour later that year in Providence, Rhode Island. It will also play engagements in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and more than 50 additional cities.
