Performances of the iconic show begin tonight.
Dreamgirls begins its run at Milwaukee Repertory Theater this evening.
Loosely based on the career of the Supremes, the show celebrates the music of the 1960s and '70s. With hits such as "Steppin’ to the Bad Side," "One Night Only," and "And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going," Dreamgirls is packed with dynamic performances while offering a moving look at the behind-the-scenes reality of the entertainment industry.
The show, with music by Henry Krieger, book and lyrics by Tom Eyen, and orchestrations by Harold Wheeler, is directed by artistic director Mark Clements. The principal cast features Nova Y. Payton as Effie White, Trish Jeffrey as Deena, Dan’yelle Williamson as Lorrell, Jared Joseph as Curtis Taylor Jr., Richard Crandle as C.C. White, Cedric Neal as James "Thunder" Early, and Nathaniel Stampley as Marty.
The creative team includes Dan Kazemi (music director), Stephen Mear (choreography), Todd Edward Ivins (set design), Alexander B. Tecoma (costume design), Thomas C. Hase (lighting design), Barry G. Funderburg (sound design), John Tanner (music supervisor), Jamie Cheatham (fight choreographer), J.C. Clementz (casting director).
