Two River Theater Company has announced the lineup of productions planned for its 2012-2013 season.
The season will kick off with Suzan-Lori Parks directing her Pulitzer Prize-winning play Topdog/Underdog (September 8-30), a darkly comic tale of two brothers. Next, Leigh Silverman will direct Ethan Lipton’s musical ode to America’s work force No Place to Go (October 6-November 4), with music composed and performed by Ethan Lipton and his orchestra.
A production of Shakespeare’s history about a young and ambitious ruler Henry V (October 20-November 11) will be directed by artistic director of The Shakespeare Society Michael Sexton. For the holiday season, Two River Theater will present the family friendly A Wind in the Willows Christmas (December 8-30), a world-premiere musical by Mike Reid, Sarah Schlesinger, and Mindi Dickstein and based on the classic of children’s literature by Kenneth Grahame.
The first production of the new year will be Noel Coward’s Present Laughter (February 16-March 10), a comedy about debonair matinee idol Garry Essendine starring Michael Cumpsty. Then, May Adrales will direct The Electric Baby (April 6-May 5) by Stefanie Zadravec, which infuses folklore into a hopeful story about damaged people.
Lisa Kron will perform in her solo show about her father’s history as a child of the Holocaust and her family’s annual trip to an amusement park in Ohio, 2.5 Minute Ride (April 20-May 12), directed by Mark Brokaw. The season will come to a close with a Ruben Santiago-Hudson directed production of August Wilson’s Two Trains Running (June 1-23), the 1960s play from Wilson’s 10-play cycle about the African-American experience in each decade of the 20th century.
