Long Beach Opera (LBO) has announced casting for The Difficulty of Crossing a Field, to run June 15-18 in the Terrace Theater at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. Andreas Mitisek will direct and design the production, which will be conducted by Ben Makino and feature lighting design by Dan Weingarten.
The piece, with music by David Lang and a libretto by Mac Wellman, is based on American writer Ambrose Bierce’s book of the same name, and focuses on what happens after a farmer in pre-Civil War Alabama disappears during a walk across his field in full view of his family, neighbors, and slaves.
The company will feature Suzan Hanson (Mrs. Williamson), Mark Bringelson (Mr. Williamson), Valarie Vinzant (Williamson girl), Eric Anthony Armour (Boy Sam), Robin Buck (Wren), Dabney Ross Jones (Virginia Creeper), and Amber Mercomes (Old woman), along with the Denali Quartet and Leslie Beard, Jessica Elisabeth, Marcus Page, Joel Brown, Matthew Lofton, Nicholas Shelton, members of the LBO Chorus.
