Berkeley Repertory Theatre has announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere musical The Lunchbox, running at Berkeley Rep’s Roda Theatre May 17-June 28.
A new musical adaptation of Ritesh Batra’s film, The Lunchbox takes place in bustling Mumbai, when a lunchbox delivery meant for one man lands in the hands of another, sparking an unlikely bond between a young wife longing to be seen and a widower nearing retirement.
The Lunchbox is directed by Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin and features a score by the Lazours, whose musical Night Side Songs is currently playing off-Broadway at LCT3. The Lunchbox has a book by Ritesh Batra and lyrics by Batra and the Lazours.
Featuring Manu Narayan and Kuhoo Verma, the cast also includes Hashini Amarasinghe, Savidu Geevaratne, Akshara Gunda, Shaarada Trayi Karthik, Benjamin Mathew, Vaibu Mohan, Shiv Nadkarni, Anisha Nagarajan, Nasir Panjwani, Yash Ramanujam, Sushma Saha, Kinshuk Sen, Caryna Shah, Aathaven Tharmarajah, Vishal Vaidya, and Levin Valayil.
The creative team also includes choreographer Reshma Gajjar, scenic designer Mimi Lien, costume designer Arjun Bhasin, lighting designer Bradley King, sound designer Justin Stasiw, wig, hair, and makeup designer Charles LaPointe, music supervisor Nathan Koci, co-arrangers Arun Ramamurthy and Rohan Krishnamurthy, music director Sheela Ramesh, and dialect coach Mahira Kakkar.
