Octet debuted in 2019 at Signature Theatre.

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s next directorial project will be a film adaptation of Dave Malloy’s a cappella musical Octet.
Malloy is adapting his book and score for the screen. Casting and additional details will be announced at a later date.
Set in a church basement meeting room, Octet is the story of eight people struggling with internet addiction who have been gathered together by an enigmatic figurehead to cure themselves of their habits.
Octet premiered in 2019 at Signature Theatre off-Broadway, in a production directed by Annie Tippe. Our critic called it “one of those rare shows that’s ambitious as hell and actually delivers on it’s promise.”
This will be Miranda’s second film, following his screen version of Jonathan Larson’s Tick, Tick…Boom! Producers include Miranda’s 5000 Broadway Productions, John Skidmore for Best Kept Secret Productions, and Julie Oh, who joins 5000 Broadway as head of film and television.
