Lisa Banvides, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Tim Blake Nelson are among the artists who will perform at the 52nd Street Project’s spring gala, He Started It, to be held on May 9 at Espace. Lewis Black will host the event, which will be directed by Alex Lacamoire and have musical direction by Jonathan Bernstein.

Oscar winner Frances McDormand, who is currently starring in Good People, will offer reminiscences.

The entertainment for the evening will feature songs dedicated to the organization’s founder Willie Reale. The pieces will have lyrics by young people participating in the group’s programs and music by composers such as Michael Friedman, Henry Krieger, Rob Reale, and Abigail Washburn, as well as Duncan Sheik and Bela Fleck, who are also expected to perform.

The 52nd Street Project matches the kids of Hell’s Kitchen (ages 9-18) with professional theater artists to create original theater.
