Leah Hocking will join the Broadway company of Mamma Mia! in the lead role of Donna Sheridan on June 7. She will succeed Corinne Melancon, who took over the role from Michele Pawk earlier this year.

Hocking is currently starring as Velma Von Tussle in Hairspray and recently co-starred as Cleo in the New York City Opera production of The Most Happy Fella.
Her other credits include All Shook Up, Dance of the Vampires, and The Thing About Men.

The Mamma Mia! company currently features Carey Anderson as Sophie, Judy McLane as Tanya, Olga Merediz as Rosie, Andy Kelso as Sky, David Beach as Harry, Mark L. Montgomery as Bill, and John Dossett as Sam.

In related news, Variety is reporting that actor Tom Hanks’s production comapny has made a deal to produce a film version of the show, with a possible release by Universal Pictures in 2007. No announcement was made as to casting or director.
