Julie Andrews Didn’t Watch Carrie Underwood in NBC’s The Sound of Music
Julie Andrews, who starred in the legendary film version of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music, didn’t watch NBC’s recent television adaptation of the show, starring Grammy winner Carrie Underwood.
“Alas, I did not [see it],” the Associated Press quoted Dame Julie as saying. But she had a good reason. “I had a speaking engagement and I couldn’t,” she continued.
There is, however, a silver lining, via her children. “My kids did record it. I’ll get around to it,” she said.
Over 18 million viewers did watch Underwood perform the role of Maria in the TV broadcast, which was based on the original stage version of the musical, not the later film version. It was so successful that NBC is now planning more televised musicals for future airings.
